Welcome
Why Czech/Slovak Lines and what
do they bring to the German
Shepherd dog?
Different from the West German or American show
lines, Czech and Slovak dogs have stronger
temperament and enhanced bravery, high drive, solid
nerves, exceptional working ability, an inborn ability
to endure battlefield conditions and they love to work.
Their backs do not slope like the show lines, but have
a straight appearance. They have stronger bones and
dark pigmentation, and most importantly, they also
have a very low rate of hip and elbow dysplasia.
From the Czech site:
"Through these three ways in which civilians have
had access to z Pohranicni Straze dogs the kennel has
managed to be at the center of breeding in both the
former Czechoslovakia and the present day Czech
Republic. Many of these dogs have been purchased
by Schutzhund competitors in both Western Europe
and the United States, often placing high at
championship events. These dog's are in high demand
in the United States and other countries for their
ability to perform the high demand placed on Police
Dogs. Because of the dedicated commitment to the
breed, Pohranicni Straze dogs make excellent home
pets who will generally live long healthy lives and
protect their family without regard to their own safety.
They are accepting of strangers, but stay aware of
their surroundings. They are without a doubt an
excellent all around dog."
